Dear Wareham Families,

Welcome to the official start of the new school year. I am convinced that 2019/20 will be our best school year yet. On Monday, I met with the entire school community to welcome them back to school and to challenge them to make this their best year. This academic year, a major focus in the district is the social emotional wellness of students and staff. In the convocation address, I offered this quote from Teddy Roosevelt, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” Students remember teachers who took an interest in them personally; teachers who let them know that they were heard, valued, and cared about. They remember teachers who created a climate of community within the classroom.

Many of our 2019 seniors shared these exact sentiments in their exit interviews and in the reflections that they emailed me. They are now off at college, working, enlisted, or figuring out the next step on their path. Recently, they recorded their thoughts on this video because they wanted to start the school year off with their thanks to all WPS teachers for the work they do to motivate, to inspire, to make connections, to build relationships, and to change lives:

Our faculty and staff also have my heartfelt thanks for the work that they do for every student, every day.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday weekend and we look forward to seeing the students on Tuesday morning.
