November 30, 2018

Dear Wareham Families,

As we close out the last day of November, we celebrate the great things that were accomplished during the month, as well as look forward to the events and activities that are ahead in December. We congratulate our Wareham Public Schools students who were honored last night at the School Committee meeting for their excellence in academic achievement. Their hard work and determination have paid in dividends with outstanding MCAS scores. We also honor to recognize and congratulate the John and Abigail Adams, high school senior award recipients.

We congratulate Nicholas Dix and Ethan Osley, as each of them has earned a full scholarship to the G20 Youth Summit in Beijing, China this February through a partnership with the WPS Global Education Department and Knovva Academy in Boston. Nick and Ethan will join dozens of other high school students from around the world to participate in leadership seminars led by professors from Harvard University and MIT.

Last night was the opening night of the Viking Theatre’s “A Streetcar Named Desire.” If you missed this moving performance by our talented high school actors, it’s playing throughout the weekend in the high school auditorium. Showtimes tonight and Saturday night are at 7:00 PM, with a matinee at 12:00 PM on Sunday.

This weekend is one of holiday celebrations and of giving in Wareham. The Office of Beyond School Time (BST) is hosting the annual coat giveaway on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Room 227 of the Multiservice Center, thanks to the generous donations of Dr. Christopher Thornell and his clients, as well as those of other local benefactors. Refreshments will be served and children will receive a new book through BST’s CFCE grant.

An opportunity for holiday giving is the Stuff a Bus event happening on Saturday. If you are able, please bring an unwrapped toy, book, clothing item, gift card, or non-perishable food staple to the parking lot next to the Wareham Fire Department from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, where our WPS bus drivers will be waiting to share a holiday greeting and add your gift to one of our WPS school buses. Donations benefit the Turning Point holiday giving program. And the annual Wareham Holiday Parade occurs on Saturday afternoon as well. It will start at the high school and proceed down Main Street, ending in Besse Park for a tree lighting.

Whatever you and your family decide to do on this eventful weekend, we hope that it brings you peace and joy. Best wishes for a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood
