Dear Wareham Families,

Now that the first snowfall of the year has come our way, it is important to remind students to dress appropriately for the colder weather. Exposed skin in freezing temperatures, even for brief amounts of time, can lead to frostbite. Are you, your family members, or families you know in need of a winter coat, hat, or gloves? The Office of Beyond School Time is hosting the WPS Annual Coat Drive tomorrow, December 7, 2019 in the Wareham Multiservice Center, Room 227 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

This annual coat giveaway began decades ago at the Ethel E. Hammond School with former and current faculty and staff members Dona Swinamer, Betsy Dunn, and Helene Owen, to name a few key figures, leading the efforts there. Many thanks to all involved with BST, particularly Patricia Gagnon and Katarina Wynne for their assistance in organizing the event again this year. We would not be able to host the coat drive without the generosity of many community members, business, and organizations, especially Thornell Chiropractic and the Onset Bay Association, who continue to support this drive year after year. Dr. Chris Thornell just dropped off well over 100 brand-new coats last Tuesday! Tags have been removed and hundreds of new and gently used coats in many colors, styles, and sizes are awaiting their new owners. Stop by for a coat, refreshments, and a picture book, courtesy of the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement grant.

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood
