    Dear Minot Forest Families:

    This is Principal Joan Seamans. It was nice to see the sun come out today and have the temperature a bit warmer. Trees are budding and the birds are singing. While it isn’t easy staying home, it helps to step outside and take in nature. Every week, I speak to the Minot Staff several times in virtual meetings. We all agree that we miss seeing our students and each other. Many teachers have tried to communicate with families by phone, email, DoJo or through students’ email. If any of your phone numbers or email have changed, please email my secretary Miss Cassells with updated information. Her email is lcassels@wareham.k12.ma.us. All students have a school email so please make sure your child is checking it. Ms. DeFilippo has made a video for just about everything you or your child needs to know about email, accessing and finding assignments on Google Classroom, uploading files, and many others. Your child can find these in their Google Classroom. The Unified Arts teachers now have their own pages so your child will have to go directly to their page for their assignments. Your child should be logging on every day to do the attendance activity, their ELA work on Monday and Wednesdays, Math work on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Science or Social Studies on Fridays with Unified Arts posted early in the week with a due date on Fridays. I have joined in on a few band lessons. Keep practicing.  If your child is attending childcare due to you being an essential employee, please email the teacher giving him/her permission to speak with the childcare worker/agency. We need your permission to communicate with them. Once we return to school, we will be setting up any canceled special education Team meetings and any testing that needed to be done will be completed upon our return as well.

    The Governor announced today as School Lunch Hero Day. We appreciate our cafeteria staff who are making the breakfasts and lunches and appreciate our bus drivers and helpers who are delivering the meals

    In conclusion, I wanted to thank you for everything you are trying to do. We know it is not easy working and monitoring your child’s schoolwork. As of Monday, all students should now have access to the internet. I appreciate Dr. Shaver-Hood’s persistent efforts in getting hotspots for families who do not have internet access. If you still do not have internet access, please email me so we can arrange for you to have one. I hope you have a great weekend.   • Dear Minot Forest Families,                                      Week of April 13, 2020

    This is Principal Joan Seamans with a weekly update. This message will be posted on the school’s Facebook page and on the Minot Forest website page. We are continuing with our online distance learning through the entire month of April up until at least May 4. The School Committee voted to cancel April vacation and students will continue working for 4 of those days. Monday, April 20 is a holiday so there will be no online classes or work that day. Students will see assignments from teachers on Tuesday, April 21 through Friday, April 24. We don’t know yet if schools will reopen but once we are told, I will get that information out to you. Some schools have changed their schedule to Monday through Thursday, with Friday as a day for students to complete any assigned work. Minot staff did not want to have another change for our students and families so our schedule will continue as is. We feel the staggered schedule works for our students rather than having multiple content lessons on one day. Since our Unified Arts staff work in two schools, they will have a separate Google Classroom page. They will be inviting students to join their page soon.  Unified Arts lessons will be posted during the earlier part of the week.

    Your child is expected to go online, if you have internet access, every day to do the daily attendance assignment and the class work that their teacher has assigned. We are seeing several are doing the attendance lesson but not completing all of their school work. To be clear, this is not optional. Students must complete it all. We know some of you have time constraints that limits the time your child can access the internet. We ask in those cases that students complete their work by the end of the week.  Please help us with Chromebook care by not having any food or drink around when students are working on their Chromebooks. If you are working offline, please email your child’s teacher pictures of what your child has completed so his/her work can be marked as completed. Dr. Shaver-Hood is trying to secure hotspots, that she mentioned on the School committee meeting, which can be lent out so all students can have access to online instruction. We also need students to check their Wareham assigned email account every day. There is a video that Ms. DeFilippo created and posted if they need help. Teachers and support staff are reaching out and communicating with students by email.

    Please let us know if there is anything you need. We know this is a difficult time and appreciate everything that you are managing at home. Remember that breakfast and lunches are still available for free every day at various sites throughout town, including the middle school.

    Dear Minot Forest Families,

    Hi, this is Principal Joan Seamans. I hope your family is doing well. We completed our first week of online learning. There is a dedicated page under Students and Parents with all our information for Distance Learning. If your child has his/her Chromebook and you have an internet connection, they should have logged into Google classroom. There is an activity to do which when completed, allows us to note attendance. Then teachers have included lessons each day to be completed. If they have not logged on, please have them do so to complete work they have missed. If you have any technical difficulties connecting or navigating any distance learning sites, please use the Technology Department’s ticket system on the WPS website and someone will assist you. You can find it by clicking on the Student and Parents tab, then Student Help Desk link. The link is  http://helpdesk.warehamps.org/open.php. Some families picked up textbooks and packets if they did not have internet access at all. Please email me if you are still in need of Chromebooks or materials. I can make an arranged time for you to pick it up this week or we can try to make different arrangements if this is not possible. We do not want anyone coming to the school if there is anyone sick at home or anyone being quarantined.

    Please remember to stop at any of the several locations to get your grab and go breakfasts and lunches. Locations can be found on the district website.

    April 1st is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day! We would like to surprise them with a series of videos using FlipGrid. We are asking students to use the link below to record a short video about a Paraprofessional they are thankful for. In the event they are unsure of the Para's name, they can email their teacher to inquire.

    To use FlipGrid, they have to be logged in with their Wareham Public Schools email. Simply click the link and then the Green Plus Sign Button to record.

    Each video submitted will be moderated prior to posting.
