The committee is working with Mr. Jim Hardy, a consultant from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. The committee's purpose is to screen applicants, determine the candidates to be interviewed, conduct interviews, and recommend finalists to the School Committee. Under state law, it is the role of the School Committee to hire the Superintendent.
A survey was available to all stakeholders seeking information regarding the qualities and skillsets they believed were important for the next Wareham Superintendent to possess. Its results will be used by the search committee and the School Committee to inform their decision-making.
Meeting Schedule and Application Timeline:
- March 10th - 7:00 pm Orientation meeting for Search Committee members at WHS library
- March 11th - Search closed
- March 16th - Executive session meeting at 6:30 pm to screen candidates (confidential)
- Week of March 21st - Search Committee interviews (confidential)
- By March 31st - Search Committee conclusion/summary (of finalists to appear before the entire school committee)
- Week of April 11th - School Committee interviews and visits to school systems
- By April 28th - Announcement
- July 1st - Start date for new Superintendent

Nineteen candidates submitted packages for the position of Superintendent of Schools in Wareham. The Wareham Search Committee reviewed all the applications, and after a series of preliminary interviews and discussion, voted to submit three candidates to the School Committee for consideration as the next Superintendent. After the Search Committee concluded its work, one of the three candidates withdrew from the process.
The candidates (listed in alphabetical order) are:
Matthew D’Andrea, LP.D., Superintendent of Schools, Martha’s Vineyard Regional Schools, Vineyard Haven, MA.
Dr. D’Andrea has been in his current position since 2015. He previously served in Martha’s Vineyard as the Assistant Superintendent from 2013-2015. His previous positions include Principal and Assistant Principal in the Old Rochester School District, and classroom teacher in Wareham, Fall River, and Framingham. He earned a Doctorate in Law and Policy from Northeastern University in 2009.
Andrea Schwamb, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Wareham, MA.
Dr. Schwamb has been in her current position since 2014. Her previous positions include Principal and Assistant Principal in Falmouth, Assistant Principal in Duxbury, Interim Assistant Principal and classroom teacher in Falmouth. She earned a Doctorate in Education from Northeastern University in 2013.
