Citations and Bibliographies

For help creating a bibliography or for more examples try these sites:

Take a look at the examples below to help you create your bibliography. Notice that they follow a pattern. For books, cite author, title, place of publication, publisher, date of publication. With some variation, magazines and newspapers follow the same general pattern as do the citations for Internet, CD-ROM, and online databases.

MLA (Modern Language Association) Format

Book

Author(s).  Title of Book.  Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication.

Oughton,  Jerrie.  Perfect Family.  Boston: Hought Mifflin Company, 2000.

Part of a Book

Author(s).  "Title of Article."  Title of Collection. Ed. Editor's Name(s). Vol.  Place of 

             Publication: Publisher, Year. Pages.

Harris, Susan M.  "Kate Chopin."  Magill's Survey of American Literature  Ed. Frank Magill.
             
            Vol. 1.  New York: Marshal Cavendish Corporation, 1991. 

Article in Newspaper or Magazine

If no author is given begin with the name of the article.

Author(s).  "Title of Article."  Name of Magazine or Newspaper.  Day Month Year: pages.

Stein, Joel.  "The Real Face of the Homeless."  Time.  20 Jan. 2003: 52-57.

Web Sites: Personal and Professional

Name of Creator of Site (if it is available and relevant).  Title of Site.  Name of Institution/
              
               Organization associated with the site.  Date of Access.  URL.

Some of the online databases such as Discovering Collection will include a citatation at the end of the article. It not, follow the example below. "Name of Article." Name of Source. Publisher, date. Where reproduced. Location of Publisher where reproduced : Publisher. Date of posting in online database. URL of database article. "Mark Twain." EXPLORING Novels. Gale Research, 1998. Reproduced in Discovering Collection. Farmington Hills, Mich.: Gale Group. October, 2001. http://galenet.galegroup.com/servlet/DC/
