D

Dual Enrollment Night Wednesday March 27 @ 7pm

Dual enrollment provides the opportunity for high school students who qualify to enroll in local college courses while still in high school. Students who participate receive both high school and college credits.

Why consider dual enrollment?  The benefits are many, but some things to consider are that dual enrollment allows students to:

Earn college credits while still in high school

Experience early exposure to college life and get a head start on the transition from high school to college

Save $$$$ and accelerate earning a college degree

Experience new meaningful and challenging academic and social experiences

Achieve a higher rate of college completion

Earn grades/credits that are transferable to most colleges and universities

Some area colleges also offer a free course or reduced tuition rates for dually enrolled students; each college has a unique policy, however.

To learn more, please attend an informational presentation immediately following the AP Night presentation March 27 @ 7pm WHS Auditorium

DECA Press Release

On January 10th at 8:00 am, 92 Wareham High School DECA Students went to the Sea Crest Resort and Conference Center in Falmouth for their District Competition.  In DECA, Distributive Education Clubs of America, students gain marketing knowledge and the skills needed to build a strong business background.

At competition, students compete in a number of categories ranging from accounting to finance to retail management.  Students can either enter competition in the individual category or the team decision- making category. In both categories, students are required to take two written 100 question tests. The individual series competitors are assigned a prepared role play which is comprised of a job interview and an unprepared role play where students are given a case study for which they have 10 minutes to brainstorm a viable solution. In team decision-making, the students have a prepared role play as well, but these students must prepare and present a promotional plan to market a service or a product. They too participate in an unprepared role play, but it is more in depth and is 30 minutes long, instead of 10. Throughout the entire competition during these events, students are expected to look professional and dress in business attire.

On the morning of January 11th, the award ceremonies took place. First, second, and third place medals were awarded for each test in each category. Wareham took home 64 medals. Overall, 57 students from Wareham High qualified to move on to the State Conference on March 14th.   First place winners included Paige Vespa, Wyatt Harunk, Nicole Nault, Lauren Slaney and Megan Fitzgerald. Second place winners included Wesley Fehskins, Hannagh Jacobson, Brett Labonte, Elizabeth St. Germaine, and Kelley Peterson. Third place winners included Tom Lemieux, Katie Modlowski, Mackenzie Connell, Anna Richard, and Allison Wallace. On top of that there were 60 top ten plaque winners who received scores that placed them in the top ten best scores in their category – an impressive showing in this academic competition.  These 92 students represented Wareham High School quite well.
