open circle social and emotional learning program
|
The Ethel E. Hammond and Minot Forest Elementary Schools participate in the Open Circle Social and Emotional Learning program. The Open Circle curriculum provides a grade-differentiated, year-long curriculum for grades K-5. The lessons are based on research findings in child development and the best teaching practices. Twice a week, students push their chairs into a circle and spend 15-20 minutes having an Open Circle lesson. Over time, teachers and children often request an Open Circle to resolve conflicts or discuss school issues. Included with the curriculum are ways to extend the lessons and involve adults at home, as well as a list of children’s books to reinforce skills. A parent component is included with the Open Circle program. Parent workshops are provided annually by Mrs. Lehane, Guidance Counselor/ Lead Teacher at Minot Forest. |
