NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

Many of us, come January, reflect on our lives and vow to make some changes. We may decide to spend more time with family, eat healthier, or do better in school. Many New Year’s resolutions fall by the wayside early on, but that is certainly not a reason to give up on the goals that you have! Resolutions are sometimes unrealistic, and when we aren’t able to carry them out, it is a blow to our self-esteem.

It is our hope at the Cooperative School that students set achievable goals that are measurable. For instance, if being in attendance at school is a goal, a student may keep track of his progress for a month and see how he does. Hopefully, if the student feels successful with his goal, it will create momentum to extend the goal time-line. The student may also begin to realize that attendance is connected to achievement, and he can see his learning improve.

As social creatures, we are motivated to do what we say we are going to do if we share our goals with someone else. Take some time this month to set some goals of your own as a family and enjoy the successes together!

Happy 2012,

Ms. Moore
